Economical Fire Barrier Nonwoven or Fabric Material with Antimicrobial Properties
Provided herein is a new fire barrier material composed of flame retardant (FR) cellulosic fiber(s) and one or more of an antimicrobial (AM) cellulosic fiber and an untreated cellulosic fiber(s). The fire barrier material may be a fabric woven or knitted from the yarn containing the FR cellulosic fiber(s) and the one or more of AM cellulosic fibers and untreated cellulosic fibers. When AM cellulosic fibers are combined with FR treated cellulosic fibers, the fire barrier material has the dual features of flame retardancy and antimicrobial properties. The fire barrier material may also be a nonwoven, and in preferred embodiments optionally includes a binder fiber. The FR cellulosic fiber contains FR chemical(s) or FR compound(s) that have a melting point or decomposition temperature at 400° C. (752° F.) or below. The FR performance of the new nonwoven provided herein is comparable to the conventional FR nonwoven (FR cellulosic fiber/binder fiber), but has advantages in cost effectiveness, as well as antimicrobial properties.

Also, multi-layered nonwoven wound dressings, containing (1) at least one inner layer containing (a) about 50% by weight to about 95% by weight (e.g., 50% to 95) non-scoured, non-bleached greige cotton fibers and (b) about 5% by weight to about 50% by weight (e.g., 5% to 50%) hydrophobic fibers, all percentages adding up to 100 wt %, and (2) at least one outer layer containing (a) about 5% by weight to about 95% by weight (e.g., 5% to 95%) non-scoured, non-bleached greige cotton fibers, (b) about 5% by weight to about 95% by weight (e.g., 5% to 95%) bleached cotton fibers, and (c) about 5% by weight to about 60% by weight (e.g., 5% to 60%) hydrophobic fibers (e.g., polypropylene, nylon); all percentages adding up to 100 wt %.
SURGICAL SWAB COMPOSED OF NON-WOVEN FABRIC AND TEXTILE POLYMER NET
The present application describes a surgical swab composed of two or more outer layers made of non-woven fabric and an inner layer of a textile polymer net, with or without x-ray detectable thread, which can be obtained, for example, by a process of knitting or weaving. The textile net can present in its composition materials with high elasticity such as elastane or alternatively combinations of materials that allow shrinking after heat treatment such as the polyamide or polyamide and polyester or even polyamide and cotton. In the present application, it is also described the production process of this surgical swab which, after the junction and overlapping of the non-woven fabric layers and the inner layer of textile polymer net, comprises ultrasound welding of the layers. The surgical swabs of this application present improved performance features and the production process involved is simple, economical and automated.
