A localization system comprising a plurality of wireless reference nodes for detecting a location of a mobile device within an environment. Each node transmits localization beacon signals to be detected by the mobile device, and/or listens for localization beacon signals from the mobile device. Further, the system also provides or contributes to providing another utility into the environment (e.g. each node being a luminaire); and transmits and/or listens for control-related signals, other than localization beacon signals, related to controlling the provision of said utility, the control related signals being communicated on a same or overlapping frequency band as the localization beacon signals, one or more controllers are configured to control the transmission of and/or listening for the control-related signals to be time-multiplexed into different time slots than the transmission and/or listening for the localization beacon signals, between the time-slots of the control-related signals.

METADATA-BASED EMITTER LOCALIZATION

A method includes obtaining signal information corresponding to a plurality of radio signals received at two or more sensing devices from a candidate location, determining a plurality of reconstructed signals based on the signal information, determining time-estimates and frequency-estimates based on a correlation between the plurality of radio signals and the plurality of reconstructed signals, determining metadata corresponding to the plurality of radio signals based on the signal information, the time-estimates, or the frequency-estimates, transmitting at least a portion of the metadata to an information combining node, obtaining the portion of the metadata from the information combining node, determining a relationship between the metadata, and determining the candidate location based on the metadata and the relationship between the metadata. Transmission of the plurality of radio signals to the information combining node is restricted based on a bandwidth of the two or more sensing devices or the information combining node.

Contextually configuring consistent proximity beacon identifiers

Administration and consistency of proximity beacon naming within one or more venues is improved by use of a mobile device to discover ranges of the beacons, and upon discovery, determining a location of a mobile computing device within the venue; receiving at the location by the mobile computing device one or more identifiers from one or more proximity beacons within range of the location; and updating by the mobile device at least one of the one or more identifiers according to a proximity beacon naming policy.

NAVIGATION AND POSITIONING SYSTEM USING RADIO BEAM

Methods and systems for wireless communication are provided. In one example, a method comprises: receiving, by a mobile device, a radio beam, the radio beam being a directional beam that propagates along an angle of departure with respect to an antenna that transmits the radio beam; identifying, by the mobile device, at least one of: the radio beam or a base station that operates the antenna; determining, by the mobile device, a position of the mobile device based on identifying at least one of the radio beam or the antenna of the base station; and outputting, by the mobile device, the position of the mobile device.

High accuracy indoor locating system

A beacon anchor may include a signal generator configured to generate an ultra-wide band signal inclusive of a unique identifier associated with the beacon anchor, where the UWB signal is a pulse sequence. A transceiver may be in communications with the signal generator. Responsive to receiving the UWB signal from the signal generator, the UWB signal may be broadcast. A processing unit may be in communication with the transceiver, and, responsive to receiving a unicast communications session request from a portable device, be configured to establish a unicast communications session with the portable device to enable a distance between the portable device and beacon anchor to be determined. Through use of UWB signals, relative position (e.g., in front of or behind the beacon anchor) may be determined, thereby enabling different actions to be taken in response to determining the relative position.

DIRECTION FINDING ANTENNA FORMAT

A method of direction finding (DF) positioning based on a simplified antenna platform format in a wireless communication network is proposed. A receiver receives antenna platform format information of a transmitter having multiple antenna elements. The antenna platform format information comprises an antenna platform format indicator, antenna platform position and orientation information, a number of antenna elements, and switching delay, phase center, and polarization information for each antenna element. The receiver receives a plurality of direction finding sounding signals transmitted from the transmitter via the multiple antenna elements. The receiver performs a DF algorithm based on the plurality of DF sounding signals and the antenna platform format information and thereby estimating a DF solution. Finally, the receiver determines its own location information based on the estimated DF solution.

Methods and systems for scheduling the transmission of localization signals and operating self-localizing apparatus

Localization systems and methods for transmitting timestampable localization signals from anchors according to one or more transmission schedules. The transmission schedules may be generated and updated to achieve desired positioning performance. For example, one or more anchors may transmit localization signals at a different rate than other anchors, the anchor transmission order can be changed, and the signals can partially overlap. In addition, different transmission parameters may be used to transmit two localization signals at the same time without interference. A self-localizing apparatus is able to receive the localization signals and determine its position. The self-localizing apparatus may have a configurable receiver that can select to receive one of multiple available localization signals. The self-localizing apparatuses may have a pair of receivers able to receive two localization signals at the same time. A bridge anchor may be provided to enable a self-localizing apparatus to seamlessly transition between two localization systems.
