IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes a cover, a cooperating member, a switching member, a detector, and a controller. The cover opens and closes an aperture in a main body of the image forming apparatus. The cooperating member moves to an activated position when the cover is opened for the first time. The activated position is a position where the cooperating member is enabled to cooperate with the cover. The switching member moves in cooperation with the cover through the cooperating member in the activated position as the cover is opened and closed. The detector detects an open state or a closed state of the cover according to the movement of the switching member. The controller determines that image formation is enabled when the detector has detected the closed state of the cover.
Cleaner assembly for removing waste toner in an electrophotographic image forming device
A cleaner assembly for an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes a cleaner blade having a pair of longitudinal ends and a cleaning edge that extends between the pair of longitudinal ends for contacting a surface of a photoconductive drum to remove toner from the surface of the photoconductive drum. An end seal is positioned at one of the pair of longitudinal ends of the cleaner blade. The end seal includes a front side positioned to contact the surface of the photoconductive drum and a rear side opposite the front side. A tab extends from the end seal across the cleaning edge of the cleaner blade for preventing a longitudinal end section of the cleaning edge of the cleaner blade from contacting the surface of the photoconductive drum. The tab does not obstruct the front side of the end seal.
Transfer unit, image forming apparatus, and method for manufacturing transfer unit, with end seal member abutting against cleaning blade and intermediate transfer belt that abut against each other
A transfer unit transferring a developer image onto a transfer medium includes: (1) an image bearing member on which the developer image is formed; (2) a cleaning member provided to extend in a width direction of the image bearing member to abut thereagainst, and remove developer on the image bearing member; and (3) a seal member that prevents the developer removed by the cleaning member from leaking outside the transfer unit. The seal member opposes a tip portion of the cleaning member. In the transfer unit, a first unit is provided with the image bearing and cleaning members, and a second unit is provided with the seal member and can engage with the first unit. The second unit engages with the first unit so that the seal member abuts against the cleaning and image bearing members.
Image forming apparatus
An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image carrier, a development device and a seal member. The seal member is provided on a downstream side in a rotating direction of the image carrier beyond the development device. The seal member is configured to prevent toner from leaking into a downstream side space in the rotating direction through toner image non-forming areas. The seal member has an elastic member and a slide member. The elastic member has an opposed surface and an end surface. The opposed surface faces the toner image non-forming area. The end surface goes around into a direction separating from the development device from an upstream side end of the opposed surface in the rotating direction. The slide member is provided along the opposed surface and the end surface. The slide member is configured to come in contact with the toner image non-forming area.
Notched end seal for an electrophotographic image forming device
An end seal for an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes an elastomeric body having a blade seal portion for sealing against a rear surface of a doctor blade and a curved rotary seal portion that extends from a bottom end of the blade seal portion for sealing against an outer surface of a rotatable developer roll. The end seal includes a cutout in an inner axial side of the body positioned at a point where the rotary seal portion and the blade seal portion meet.
CLEANER ASSEMBLY FOR REMOVING WASTE TONER IN AN ELECTROPHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE FORMING DEVICE
A cleaner assembly for an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes a cleaner blade having a pair of longitudinal ends and a cleaning edge that extends between the pair of longitudinal ends for contacting a surface to remove toner from the surface. A strip is attached to the cleaner blade at one of the pair of longitudinal ends of the cleaner blade. The strip is wrapped over the cleaning edge of the cleaner blade for preventing a longitudinal end section of the cleaning edge of the cleaner blade from contacting the surface.

The tab does not obstruct the front side of the end seal.
Developing device, process cartridge, and image forming apparatus including an entrance seal which contacts an image bearer
A developing device includes a developer bearer rotatable in a rotation direction and forming a developing range, a holder, and an entrance seal. The holder has a facing face facing the developer bearer upstream from the developing range in the rotation direction, a support face defining a part of an outer face of the developing device, and a relay face extending from one end of the support face to one end of the relay face connected to the facing face to form an acute tip portion closer to the developing range than the one end. The entrance seal has a free end projecting from the one end as a cantilever, and a length of the entrance seal from a tip of the free end of the entrance seal to the one end is shorter than a length of the relay face from the acute tip portion to the one end.

Image forming device
An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus main body and a cartridge configured to be mounted to and detached from the apparatus main body. The cartridge includes a rotating member which is configured to rotate and comprises a detected portion and a first engaging portion. The apparatus main body includes a detecting portion configured to detect the detected portion and a second engaging portion configured to engage with the first engaging portion. At least when the detecting portion detects the detected portion, the first engaging portion and the second engaging portion are engaged with each other by rotation of the rotating member.
