Method and apparatus for monitoring of a human or animal subject field

A method and apparatus for monitoring a human or animal subject in a room using video imaging of the subject and analysis of the video image to detect and quantify movement of the subject and to derive an estimate of vital signs such as heart rate or breathing rate. The method includes techniques for de-correlating global intensity variations such as sunlight changes, compensating for noise, eliminating areas not of interest in the image, and quickly and automatically finding regions of interest for detecting subject movement and estimating vital signs. A logic machine is used for interpreting detected movement of the subject, and an artificial neural network is used to calculate a confidence measure for the vital signs estimates from signal quality indices. The confidence measure may be used with a normal density filter to output estimates of the vital signs.

Computer implemented methods and systems are provided that comprise, under control of one or more processors of a medical device, where the one or more processors are configured with specific executable instructions. The methods and systems obtain motion data indicative of at least one of a posture or a respiration cycle; obtain cardiac activity (CA) signals for a series of beats; identify whether a characteristic of interest (COI) from at least a first segment of the CA signals exceeds a COI limit; analyze the motion data to determine whether at least one of the posture or respiration cycle at least in part caused the COI to exceed the COI limit. Based on the analyzing operation, the methods and systems automatically adjust a CA sensing parameter utilized by the medical device to detect R-waves in subsequent CA signals; and detect an arrhythmia based on a presence or absence of one or more of the R-waves in at least a second segment of the CA signals.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR REMOTE SLEEP MONITORING

Methods and systems for remote sleep monitoring are provided. Such methods and systems provide non-contact sleep monitoring via remote sensing or radar sensors. In this regard, when processing backscattered radar signals from a sleeping subject on a normal mattress, a breathing motion magnification effect is observed from mattress surface displacement due to human respiratory activity. This undesirable motion artifact causes existing approaches for accurate heart-rate estimation to fail. Embodiments of the present disclosure use a novel active motion suppression technique to deal with this problem by intelligently selecting a slow-time series from multiple ranges and examining a corresponding phase difference. This approach facilitates improved sleep monitoring, where one or more subjects can be remotely monitored during an evaluation period (which corresponds to an expected sleep cycle).

A system includes an electronic circuit, a memory, and a control system. The electronic circuit is coupled to a conduit. The conduit may be configured to deliver pressurized air. A portion of the electronic circuit has a first electrical property that is configured to change based at least in part on movement of the portion of the electronic circuit. The memory stores machine-readable instructions. The control system includes one or more processors configured to execute the machine-readable instructions. Data associated with the first electrical property of the electronic circuit is received. The received data is analyzed. Based at least in part on the analysis, it is determined that the first electrical property of the electronic circuit has changed. Responsive to the determination that the first electrical property of the electronic circuit has changed, it is determined that the conduit is moving or has moved.
