Anvil modification members for surgical staplers
A surgical system includes an anvil that has, one, an elongate slot extending longitudinally along a length of the anvil and, two, a plurality of first staple-forming pockets. The surgical system further includes an anvil modification member releasably attachable to the anvil, wherein the anvil modification member comprises a plurality of second staple-forming pockets. In addition, the surgical system also includes a staple cartridge that has a plurality of staples formable by the plurality of first staple-forming pockets when the anvil modification member is not attached to the anvil, and wherein the staples are formable by the plurality of second staple-forming pockets when the anvil modification member is attached to the anvil.
Flexible drive member, end-effector, and surgical instrument using the same
The disclosure relates to a surgical instrument and discloses a flexible drive member, an end-effector, and a surgical instrument. The flexible drive member includes a distal portion, a proximal portion, and a bendable portion therebetween, wherein the bendable portion includes a plurality of wire bundles extending in the length direction of the flexible drive member, and a flexible casing enclosing the plurality of wire bundles. In the technical solutions of the disclosure, the bendable portion is provided with some rigidity and flexibility due to the plurality of wire bundles, and the flexibly casing can fix the plurality of wire bundles relatively and can alleviate friction rate of the surface of the flexible drive member and further improve the rigidity of the flexible drive member.
Systems and methods for controlling displaying motor velocity for a surgical instrument
A motorized surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a displacement member, a motor coupled to the displacement member, a control circuit coupled to the motor, and a position sensor coupled to the control circuit. The control circuit is configured to determine a velocity of the displacement member via the position sensor, and cause the display to present an indicia that is indicative of the velocity of the displacement member, wherein a portion of the display occupied by the indicia corresponds to the velocity of the displacement member.
Grasping jaw mechanism
A surgical device is disclosed which includes a handle assembly, an elongated member and a disposable loading unit. The handle assembly includes a mode selection mechanism configured to alternate the surgical device between a first grasping mode of operation and a second clamping mode of operation. The handle assembly includes a rotation control member and an articulation lever. The rotation control member is configured to facilitate rotation of the elongated member with respect to the handle assembly. The articulation lever is configured to facilitate articulation of the tool assembly about an axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of elongated member. In one embodiment, the tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly having a plurality of staples and an anvil assembly configured to clamp and staple tissue in the second clamping mode of operation of the device.
DETACHABLE MOTOR POWERED SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A detachable motor-powered surgical instrument. The instrument may include a housing that includes at least one engagement member for removably attaching the housing to an actuator arrangement. A motor is supported within the housing for supplying actuation motions to various portions of a surgical end effector coupled to the housing. The housing may include a contact arrangement that is configured to permit power to be supplied to the motor only when the housing is operably attached to the actuator arrangement.
Rotary powered surgical instrument with manually actuatable bailout system
A motor-driven surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument comprises a motor that is supported in a housing and includes at least one rotary drive system that is configured for selective operable engagement and disengagement with the motor assembly. A bailout drive train is supported by the housing assembly and is configured for selective operable engagement and disengagement with the at least one rotary drive system. A bailout handle assembly is selectively movable between a stored position within the housing assembly and an actuation position such that, when the bailout handle assembly is in the stored position, the at least one rotary drive system is retained in operable engagement with the motor assembly and when the bailout handle assembly is in the actuation position, the bailout drive train is in operable engagement with the at least one rotary drive system.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR REPAIRING SOFT TISSUE AND ATTACHING SOFT TISSUE TO BONE
Devices, systems and/or methods for repairing soft tissue adjacent a soft tissue repair site. In one embodiment, the repair device includes an anchor member having a base with at least four legs extending from the base. The base extends with a generally flat circular profile defining an upper surface and an underside surface with a central opening extending therethrough. Further, the at least four legs extend from the base with an elongated angled portion, the elongated angled portion being oriented at an angle less than seventy-five degrees relative to the underside surface of the base. With this arrangement, the anchor member may be fixated to soft tissue by rotating the base with a delivery tool so that the elongated angled portion of the at least four legs facilitates the anchor member sinking into the soft tissue and fixating thereto.
Tool assembly for a surgical stapling device
A surgical device comprising a first jaw member, a second jaw member, a clamping member and a clamp apparatus is disclosed. The clamping member is slidably positioned to translate at least partially through the first jaw member. The clamping member engages the first jaw member and the second jaw member, and has a knife blade for cutting tissue. A flange of the clamping member is configured to engage a cam surface to pivot the second jaw member with respect to the first jaw member from an open position toward an approximated position. The clamp apparatus is movable from a retracted position to an advanced position for preventing a gap between proximal portions of the first jaw member and the second jaw member from exceeding a predetermined distance. The clamping member and the clamp apparatus are separately movable.
Surgical stapling system comprising a shiftable transmission
A stapling instrument system is disclosed that comprises an instrument comprising a handle and an output and, in addition, an interchangeable tool assembly attachable to the instrument. The interchangeable tool assembly comprises a housing, a drive input operably engageable with the output, and an end effector comprising a first rotatable output shaft, a second rotatable output shaft, and a transmission configurable in three operating states which selectively couple the first and second rotatable output shafts with the drive input.
