Patient interface for ophthalmologic diagnostic and interventional procedures

Configurations are described for conducting ophthalmic procedures to address cataract-related clinical challenges. In one embodiment, a one-piece patient contact interface may be utilized to couple a diagnostic and/or interventional system to a cornea of a patient; in another embodiment, a two-part configuration may be utilized; in another embodiment, a liquid interface two-part embodiment may be utilized.

Ophthalmological device

An ophthalmic instrument for the application of laser radiation in a patient's eye, particularly for the examination and/or surgical laser treatment of the cornea and the lens of the eye, includes a femtosecond laser, an objective and optical assemblies. The optical assemblies are arranged in front of the objective, and selectively vary the focus position in the coordinate direction X,Y and Z either within the region of the cornea or within the region of the lens of the eye. The objective or at least one lens group is movable relative to the eye. The variation of the position of the lens group objective shifts the focus position from the cornea to the lens of the eye and vice versa.

Minimally invasive glaucoma surgical instrument and method

Apparatuses and methods for the treatment of glaucoma are provided. The instrument uses either cauterization, a laser to ablate, sonic or ultrasonic energy to emulsify, or mechanical cutting of a portion of the trabecular meshwork. The instrument may also be provided with irrigation, aspiration, and a footplate. The footplate is used to enter Schlemm's canal, serves as a guide, and also protects Schlemm's canal.

The system also comprises a processor in communication with the memory. The processor is configured to receive an original target profile for the eye of the patient. The processor is also configured to obtain a cut-off spatial domain kernel filter and convolve the original target profile with the cut-off spatial domain kernel filter to provide a convolved target profile. The processor is further configured to determine the vision treatment based on the convolved target profile.

MEDICAL INSTRUMENT WITH AN INTEGRATED OPTICAL FIBER

In some embodiments, an illuminated microsurgical instrument system includes a microsurgical instrument having a distally projecting tubular member arranged to perform a medical procedure. The tubular member has a distal tip and an outer surface, the outer surface having a flat surface formed therein. The instrument includes a sheath member surrounding a portion of the tubular member and extending toward the distal tip of the tubular member and an optical fiber extending along a length of the flat surface between the tubular member and the sheath member. The instrument may include an opening such as a slot in the distal end of the sheath member to direct exiting air away from the tip of the optical fiber. The instrument may further include a slack chamber, collar structure, and fiber guard member to support and guide the optical fiber to the distal tip.

An ophthalmological laser therapy device including a laser system, an x-y scanner, collecting optics and a z-scanner. The invention also relates to a method for processing a tissue of an eye by a therapeutic laser beam of an ophthalmological laser therapy device. The invention provides an ophthalmological laser therapy device and a corresponding method which permit, with minimal engineering complexity, a very quick positioning of the laser spot in a large volume region, in particular in a large x-y region perpendicular to the optical axis. The problem is also solved by a method for processing a tissue of the eye or a material located in an eye using an ophthalmological laser therapy device, wherein each sub-section of the tissue of the eye is processed using a corresponding positioning or the device for the adjustable redirecting of the laser beam in an image field of the collection optics.

An imaging system includes an eye interface device, a scanning assembly, a beam source, a free-floating mechanism, and a detection assembly. The eye interface device interfaces with an eye. The scanning assembly supports the eye interface device and scans a focal point of an electromagnetic radiation beam within the eye. The beam source generates the electromagnetic radiation beam. The free-floating mechanism supports the scanning assembly and accommodates movement of the eye and provides a variable optical path for the electronic radiation beam and a portion of the electronic radiation beam reflected from the focal point location. The variable optical path is disposed between the beam source and the scanner and has an optical path length that varies to accommodate movement of the eye. The detection assembly generates a signal indicative of intensity of a portion of the electromagnetic radiation beam reflected from the focal point location.

Systems and methods of laser treatment of the intact crystalline lens to increase ionic transport of antioxidants in specific areas where flexural changes and transparency reduction come from lens aging. Microchannels created in patterns and grids placed strategically in the inner lens carry antioxidants from the sourcethe anterior and the epitheliuminto areas scarce or void of transport mechanisms (and thus scarce of antioxidants). A variety of patterns are utilized to facilitate ions traveling along new pathways.
