A one-way breathing valve can be included in the crown to assist with breathing when the face mask is worn.

Adjustable face shield providing a range of protective features

Methods and systems are provided for a face shield capable of sliding onto a brim of a head covering. The face shield may have coatings providing anti-microbial protection, UV protection, fire protection, or combinations thereof. The face shield may be pre-designed for a specific head covering, or may be adaptable to take the correct shape upon mounting to the head covering. The face shield may also include a snap-on strip that is releasably connectable to a substantially transparent sheet of material forming the face shield and the snap-on strip may be configured to impart a shape to the substantially transparent sheet of material when connected thereto.

Under conditions where there is no desire for protection, the mask member can be easily stored against the interior surface of the hat member. When there is a desire for protection, the mask member can be easily and quickly donned. The service period of the mask hat is extendable by washing. Several technological problems are overcome, including, individual and community protection from the airborne spread of infectious disease in a manner that is effective, not noxious to human sensibility and not overly bearing.

A face shield includes a clear front portion, stop members, and side portions with pivot holes. A device includes clip members with pivot knobs that extend outward through the pivot holes. The shield pivotably engages the clip members. The clip members are securable to user headgear. The shield can be pivoted between open and closed configurations. Although it is gravity-biased towards the closed configuration, the shield can be pivoted past the stop members into the open configuration. In the open configuration, the stop members withstand the aforesaid gravity-biasing and keep the shield in the open configuration. The stop members can be resiliently deformed to permit pivoting of the shield from the open configuration towards the closed configuration. The shield is formed from a flat plastic sheet, with notches that engage mating tongues to keep it in a folded configuration.
