Connector with a claw of locking member

A connector is fitted into a mating connector including a receiving member, and includes a locking arm for locking the receiving member. The locking arm includes an arm member which extends in a fitting direction to the mating connector, and a locking member which is provided at a tip end of the arm member or in the neighborhood thereof so as to project in a direction intersecting the direction of fitting, and locks the receiving member. The locking member includes a claw which is formed at a tip end of the locking member so as to project in a direction opposite to the fitting direction to the mating connector and is caught by the receiving member.

An electrical connector system includes a connector and a header. The header includes a substantially T-shaped member having a proximal portion substantially rectangular in shape having a first width and a distal portion substantially rectangular in shape having a second width greater than the first width. A first and a second end portion of the distal portions are substantially T-shaped viewed end on. The first and the second end portions include a plurality of guides and shoulders. The connector includes a substantially rectangular member having a proximal portion having a first thickness and a distal portion having a second thickness less than the first thickness on a bottom side of the substantially rectangular member. The proximal portion includes first and second proximal feet and first and second distal feet. Each foot includes a foot retention shoulder and one or more guides.

Contact positions between the female terminals and the short-circuiting pieces and locking positions at which the female terminals are locked in the female housing are different from each other about a fitting direction when viewed therefrom.

The methods comprise: receiving a conductive pin (402, 800, 1006, 1602) of the male plug in a socket opening (112, 900, 1012, 1612) of the female receptacle; providing (a) first spring loaded floating contact points (460) between an elongate body (422) of the conductive pin and an electrical contact (106A-106B) of the female receptacle and (b) at least one second spring loaded floating contact point (462) between a tip (420) of the conductive pin and the electrical contact (110) of the female receptacle, when the conductive pin is fully inserted into the female receptacle; and maintaining at least two of the spring loaded floating contact points when the pin moves within the socket opening as a result of an external force applied to the male plug or female receptacle.

The corresponding female shroud has a shroud housing defining a cavity or a plurality of cavities, and for each cavity there is a shroud retention feature for engaging the pre-lock retention ledge, and a positive lock retention surface and a terminal position assurance shelf on the inside of the housing facing the cavity. The connector system of the invention provides a terminal position assurance retention feature in each cavity.
