An apparatus includes a body, an end effector, a trocar, and an anvil. The anvil head includes an annular surface defining a plurality of staple forming pockets. The plurality of staple forming pockets are configured to deform the plurality of staples when the anvil is in the staple forming position. The shank extends proximally from the annular stapling head. The shank and the anvil head cooperatively define a bore dimensioned to receive a portion of the trocar. The shank defines a lateral opening. The latch member is pivotally coupled with the shank via a living hinge. The latch member comprises a latch shelf configured to selectively couple the anvil with trocar when the trocar is inserted into the bore.

Expanding tool and method

A tool including a front housing and an expander head ring that is readily attachable and detachable from the front housing. The front housing may be coupled to the tool body, or can be integral with the tool body. The front housing may have a mating end that has one or more locking tabs that are configured to be engaged by the expander head ring. The expander head ring may carry one or more functional elements such as a die set that may be expanded by insertion of an expander extending from the tool such as by manual actuation of the tool. A plurality of expander head rings, each with a different size die set, can be alternatively attached to the front housing, depending on the desired extent of expanding of the pipe or the like with the tool.

JOINING METHOD FOR MEMBERS

The joining method for members according to the present invention includes: providing an aluminum component including an insertion hole provided with a rib in at least part of an edge part, and a hollow steel pipe; inserting the steel pipe into the insertion hole of the aluminum component; and expanding and deforming the steel pipe to join the steel pipe to the aluminum component by press-fitting.

A method for manufacturing a high precision hollow metallic component, by obtaining, through extruding or roll forming, a precursor hollow metallic profile having a constant cross section and at least one precursor chamber; positioning the precursor hollow metallic profile in a split-die cavity, wherein at least two walls of said split die cavity have essentially outside dimensions of corresponding walls of the high-precision hollow metallic component; introducing a mandrel made of at least two parts into the precursor chamber; plastically deforming the precursor hollow metallic profile by expanding the mandrel to obtain finished dimensions of the high-precision hollow metallic component; removing the mandrel from the finished chamber after reversing an expanding action. A variable cross section hollow metallic component, with at least two chambers obtained with the method, is also described.

A hydraulic tube expander includes expanding jaws engageable with an interior surface of a tube to expand the tube; a source of hydraulic fluid, a valve located between the source and the expanding jaws and a single-action release actuator operatively coupled to the valve. The valve is moveable between open and closed positions. In the closed position, hydraulic fluid can pass from the source to the expanding jaws and in the open position the hydraulic fluid can pass from the expanding jaws to the source. The actuator is movable between first and second positions. In the first position the valve is in the closed position. Movement of the actuator in a direction from the first position toward the second position moves the valve into the open position.
