The barrier segment includes at least 30 weight % of the polymeric shell based on the total solids weight of the polymeric shell. Further, the polymeric shell is covalently bonded to at least a portion of the polymeric core.

The intermediate section of each overlap zone has greater width than the width of the terminal sections.

An expandable chamber for tyre vulcanisation and moulding apparatuses and, a process for treating the expandable chamber are also described.
