Syndiotactic propylene polymers and lubricating oils comprising the same
This disclosure relates to syndiotactic polymers containing units derived from propylene and units derived from C.sub.4 to C.sub.20 alpha olefins. The polymers can be prepared is slurry or solution polymerization processes using a zirconium-containing metallocene catalyst system. The polymers have a melt flow rate as determined by ASTM D-1238 (230 C., 2.16 kg) of from about 0.1 to about 20 g/10 min. The syndiotactic polymers are useful as viscosity index improvers.
Lubricating Compositions
A lubricating composition suited for use in lubricating a driveline device includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and a compound comprising a polyolefin-substituted bridged hydroxyaromatic compound or metal salt thereof, wherein the polyolefin is derived from a isobutylene having a number average molecular weight of 150 to 800.
BORON CONTAINING AUTOMOTIVE GEAR OIL
The disclosed technology relates to an automotive gear oil, which may be used, for example, in heavy duty manual transmissions and axles, and includes an oil of lubricating viscosity, 1 wt % or less of a dispersant, and at least one boron containing compound.
Transmission Fluid Composition for Improved Wear Protection
A transmission fluid composition contains a major amount of a lubricating oil basestock, and a minor amount of an additive package comprising: (i) a mixture comprising two or more phosphites and/or phosphates; (ii) one or more thioester compounds; (iii) one or more zinc dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate compounds; and (iv) one or more oil-soluble or dispersible molybdenum-containing compounds. Such a transmission fluid may be used for controlling and/or reducing wear, e.g., in a manual transmission.
Nitrogen-free phosphorus compounds and lubricants containing the same
A composition obtained by reacting an O,O-dialkyldithiophosphoric acid with a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or a hydroxyalkyl methacrylate, and reacting the product thereof with a dialkylphosphite provides good antiwear protection.
Dual metallocene-catalyzed bimodal copolymer compositions
This application relates to copolymer compositions and copolymerization processes. The processes may use two different metallocene catalysts: one capable of producing high molecular weight copolymers; and one suitable for producing lower molecular weight copolymers having at least a portion of vinyl terminations, and the copolymer compositions produced thereby. Copolymer compositions may comprise (1) a first ethylene copolymer fraction having high molecular weight, exhibiting branching topology, and having relatively lower ethylene content (based on the weight of the first ethylene copolymer fraction); and (2) a second ethylene copolymer fraction having low molecular weight, exhibiting linear rheology, and having relatively higher ethylene content (based on the weight of the second ethylene copolymer fraction). It is believed that the unique combination of these properties provides a copolymer composition with advantageous viscosity modifying properties, such as an excellent combination of shear thinning and fuel economy, as well as high thickening efficiency.
LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
A lubricating oil composition including: a lubricating base oil; (A) a poly(meth)acrylate having a weight average molecular weight of no more than 50,000, in an amount of 2 to 10 mass %; (B) a phosphite ester of the general formula (1) in an amount of 0.01 to 0.06 mass % in terms of P; (C) a thiadiazole compound in an amount of 0.01 to 0.2 mass %; and (D) a Ca salicylate detergent in an amount of 0.005 to 0.03 mass % in terms of Ca, wherein the lubricating oil composition has a kinematic viscosity at 40 C. of 4.0 to 20.0 mm.sup.2/s, and a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of 1.8 to 5.2 mm.sup.2/s; and has a ratio [S]/[P] of 2.2 to 4.0, wherein the [S] represents a sulfur content, and the [P] represents a phosphorus content:
##STR00001##
wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently a group having 5 to 20 carbons represented by the general formula (2); and
##STR00002##
wherein R.sup.3 is a C2-17 linear chain hydrocarbon group, and R.sup.4 is a C2-17 linear chain hydrocarbon group.
Lubricant containing thiadiazole derivatives
The present disclosure describes a lubricating composition including a) a major part of a base oil of lubricating viscosity wherein the base oil is selected from API Group I, II, III, IV, V, or mixtures thereof, b) a total of 0.001 to 0.536 wt. %, based on the total lubricating composition, of one or more monohydrocarbyl-substituted dimercaptothiadiazole derivative(s) according to Formula (I), or a tautomer or salt thereof, below ##STR00001## wherein R is methyl or C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkyl, wherein the total lubricating composition has a sulfur content of up to 2,500 ppm (wt.), c) less than 0.1 wt % phosphite. The disclosure further describes the use of the lubricating composition for lubricating a driveline, a transmission including a manual or automated transmission, a gear, an automated gear, or an axle, and for enhanced FZG test performance. The disclosure further relates to a method for preparing the lubricating composition.
