Abstract
A face mask for use with a nebulizer having a frame structure with a central portion having a view port, a bottom portion extending from a bottom side of the central portion and having an opening for receiving the nebulizer, side portions extending from sides of the central portion and having an openings over which filters can be mounted, and elastic bands for mounting the frame structure to the patient's face. The elastic bands may be positioned around the back of the patient's neck, over the patient's nose, and under the patient's chin. A bendable nose wire on the elastic band positioned over the patient's nose. Providing a nebulizer treatment to a patient wearing the face mask,
Claims
1. Face mask for use with a nebulizer, comprising: a sheet of material constituting a frame structure having: a central portion; a left side portion extending from a left side of the central portion; a right side portion extending from a right side of the central portion; and a bottom portion extending from a bottom side of the central portion.
2. The face mask of claim 1, wherein: the material of the frame structure comprises polyethylene, has a thickness of approximately 1.5 mm, and is sufficiently flexible to allow the frame structure to conform to a contour of a patient's face.
3. The face mask of claim 1, wherein: a width and height of the frame structure is sufficient to span a lower portion of a patient's face, from chin-to-nose.
4. The face mask of claim 1, wherein: the central portion has an opening functioning as a view port; the left side portion has an opening over which a filter is mounted; and the right side portion has an opening over which a filter is mounted.
5. The face mask of claim 1, wherein: the bottom portion is elongate and has an opening for receiving a nebulizer, or a portion of a nebulizing apparatus; and a distal end portion of the bottom portion forming a chin support.
6. The face mask of claim 1, further comprising: a fold line between the left side portion and the central portion; a fold line between the right side portion and the central portion; and a fold line between the bottom portion and the central portion.

The face mask of claim 1, further comprising: a first elastic band (mask mounting elastic) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by positioning the band around the back of the patient's neck.
8. The face mask of claim 1, further comprising: a second elastic band (nose elastic) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by extending over the patient's nose.
9. The face mask of claim 8, further comprising: a bendable nose wire (malleable metal strip) disposed on a central portion of the second elastic band for securing the second elastic band to the patient's nose.

The face mask of claim 1, further comprising: a third elastic band (chin elastic strap) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by being positioned under the patient's chin and supporting the weight of a nebulizer and associated tubing.
11. The face mask of claim 1, further comprising: a first elastic band (mask mounting elastic) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by positioning the band around the back of the patient's neck; a second elastic band (nose elastic) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by extending over the patient's nose; and a third elastic band (chin elastic strap) secured at one end to the left side portion, and secured at its other end to the right side portion for mounting the frame structure to a patient's face by being positioned under the patient's chin and supporting the weight of a nebulizer and associated tubing.
12. The face mask of claim 11, wherein: the third elastic band (chin elastic strap) is stiffer than the second elastic band (nose elastic) in order to support the weight of a nebulizer and associated tubing mounted to the opening in the bottom portion.
13. Method of providing a nebulizer treatment to a patient, comprising: providing a face mask comprising a frame structure having a central portion with a view port, a bottom portion extending from a bottom side of the central portion and having an opening for receiving a nebulizer, or a portion of a nebulizing apparatus, and elastic bands for mounting the frame structure to the patient's face; mounting the face mask on the patient's face; connecting the nebulizer, or a portion of a nebulizing apparatus to the face mask; and performing the treatment.
14. The method of claim 13, wherein the frame structure further comprises: at least one side portion extending from a side of the central portion of the frame structure and having an opening over which a filter can be mounted.
15. The method of claim 13, wherein: a first elastic band extends around the back of the patient's neck; a second elastic band extends over the patient's nose; and a third elastic band is positioned under the patient's chin.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein: the third elastic band is stiffer than the second elastic band and supports the weight of the nebulizer, or a portion of a nebulizing apparatus mounted to the opening in the bottom portion.
17. The method of claim 15, further comprising: a bendable nose wire (malleable metal strip) disposed on the second elastic band for securing the second elastic band to the patient's nose.

Some Alternative Steps

[0211] Testing of the mask has shown that it may be difficult at times to identify the Instrument Ports because they may collapse into and be concealed by the wrinkled portion of the very flexible mask substrate (bag).

Some Variations and Optional/additional Items/Features
