In-mold coating of ROMP polymers
The present invention relates to in-mold coating of a cyclic olefin polymer. More particularly, the present invention relates to methods and compositions for in-mold coating cyclic olefin polymers prepared by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) reactions and the manufacture of polymer articles via ROMP. Polymer products produced via the metathesis reactions of the invention may be utilized for a wide range of materials and composite applications. The invention has utility in the fields of polymer and material chemistry and manufacture.

The present invention is a hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer comprising a repeating unit derived from tetracyclododecene, and a repeating unit derived from an additional norbornene-based monomer, the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a racemo diad ratio of 65% or more with respect to the repeating unit derived from tetracyclododecene, the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 10,000 to 40,000, and a resin formed article obtained by forming the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a glass transition temperature of 140 to 165° C., a melt flow rate of 8 g/10 min or more as measured at a temperature of 280° C. under a load of 21.18 N, and a flexural strength of 60 MPa or more as measured by a flexural test at a test speed of 2 mm/min, and a resin formed article, and an optical member.
RESIN FILM, BARRIER FILM, ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE FILM, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR
Provided is a resin film having excellent size stability in a high-temperature environment. A resin film formed of a resin containing an alicyclic structure-containing polymer having crystallizability, wherein an absolute value of a thermal size change ratio when the film is heated at 150° C. for 1 hour is 1% or less in any in-plane direction of the film. The alicyclic structure-containing polymer may preferably be a hydrogenated product of a ring-opened polymer of dicyclopentadiene. Also provided is a method for producing the resin film including a step of relaxing strain of the crystallized film while the crystallized. film is kept flat.

The invention discloses an adhesion agent composition comprising at least one C.sub.3-C.sub.200 olefin compound having at least one metathesis active double bond, wherein the olefin is substituted or unsubstituted; and at least one compatibilizing functionality for interacting with a substrate surface. The substrate surface can be any surface, for example, silicate glasses, silicate minerals, metals, metal alloys, ceramics, natural stones, plastics, carbon, silicon, and semiconductors. The invention also discloses articles of manufacture utilizing these adhesion agents as well as methods for adhering a polyolefin to a substrate surface.

Radical cascade reactions enabling sequence-controlled ring-closing polymerization and ring-opening polymerization for the controlled synthesis of polymers with complex main-chain structures are provided. Facile syntheses leading to low-strain macrocyclic monomers consisting of the ring-opening triggers and extended main-chain structures are also provided. The present disclosure further provides methods for excellent control over polymer molecular weights and molecular weight distributions and high chain-end fidelity allows for the preparation of polymeric systems with well-defined architectures. Further provided are the general nature of the radical cascade-triggered transformations in polymer chemistry, and its application to the synthesis of polymers with diverse main-chain structural motifs with tailored functions. Preparation Of Thermoplastic Epoxidized Polymers And Thermosetting Materials From Triglycerides
A method i for forming an epoxidized polymer is provided. The method may include mixing an epoxidized plant oil with a synthetic epoxy resin and crosslinking the epoxidized plant oil and the synthetic epoxy resin using a curing agent. The epoxidized plant oil may be formed via: converting plant oil triglycerides to fatty amide alcohols via aminolysis using primary or secondary amines, converting the fatty amide alcohols to epoxidized fatty amide alcohols, and reacting the epoxidized fatty amide alcohols with vinyl monomers to obtain epoxidized plant oil monomers.
