A power transmitting fluid comprises a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of an additive composition. The additive composition comprises:

(a) a friction modifier of the formula:

(b) an oil-soluble phosphorus compound; and,
(c) an ashless dispersant;
wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and represent linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbyl groups having from 8 to 20 carbon atoms. Z represents a polyoxyalkylene segment or a polyalkoxylated alkyl amine segment. The friction modifiers provide the fluid with improved fluoroelastomer seal compatibility and enhanced copper corrosion compatibility.

The invention provides a lubricating composition containing a -amino compound. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine by lubricating the engine with the lubricating composition. The invention further relates to the use of the -amino carbonyl compound as copper corrosion inhibitors, friction control agents, antiwear and/or extreme pressure agents.

A product ((c)P) of a mass (mass %) of the component (c) and a mass (mass ppm) of a phosphorus element in the component (b) in the composition is in a range from 1 to 50.

LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION

A lubricating oil composition containing a lubricating base oil and on the basis of the total mass of the composition, (A) a boron-containing ashless dispersant in an amount of 100 to 500 ppm by mass as boron, (B) a phosphorous additive in an amount of 300 to 800 ppm by mass as phosphorus, (C) an amide- and/or imide-based friction modifier in an amount of 1 to 4 percent by mass, and (D) an alkali metal- and/or alkaline earth metal-based detergent in an amount of 100 to 300 ppm by mass as metal, and having a 40 C. kinematic viscosity of 30 mm2/s or lower is provided. The lubricating oil composition, which has a low viscosity to improve fuel efficiency, also has superior anti-wear, anti-seizure, and anti-shattering properties, even when the composition is degraded by oxidation or by the elution of compounds from sealing materials after long term use.

A lubricating oil composition for a metal belt-type continuously variable transmission with a high metal-to-metal friction coefficient and excellent anti-fatigue and anti-seizure properties is provided. The composition contains a lubricating base oil and (A) a high overbased alkaline earth metal sulfonate having a base number of 300 to 500 mgKOH/g in an amount of 0.01 to 0.03 percent by mass as alkaline earth metal, (B) a low overbased alkaline earth metal sulfonate with a base number of 0 to 40 mgKOH/g in an amount of 0.005 to 0.015 percent by mass as alkaline earth metal, and (C) a sulfur-containing phosphite ester in an amount of 0.02 to 0.06 percent by mass as phosphorus. The ratio ([M]/[P]) of the content of (B) as alkaline earth metal ([M]) to the content of (C) as phosphorus ([P]) is 0.15 or greater.

The present invention provides a lubricant composition having high moisture resistance and having physical properties including low viscosity, low evaporability, low-temperature fluidity, and a high viscosity index. The lubricant composition contains (i) an aliphatic ether compound as a base oil and (ii) an antioxidant made from at least alkylated phenylnaphthylamine and phosphite ester, wherein a sum of individual amounts of the alkylated phenylnaphthylamine and the phosphite ester is a predetermined amount, and the alkylated phenylnaphthylamine and the phosphite ester are used in a predetermined ratio.

Quaternary ammonium salt containing compositions that provide balanced deposit control and wear performance without seal compatibility issues

The invention relates to lubricating compositions, processes of making such lubricating compositions, and method of using such lubricating compositions. The lubricating compositions of the present invention include a dispersant comprising a quaternary ammonium salt, a phosphorus-containing compound, a metal dialkyldithiophosphate, a derivative of a hydroxyl carbonyl compound and an amine and/or an alcohol. These compositions provide balanced deposit control and wear performance without causing any seal compatibility issues.

A lubricating oil composition for transmissions is provided which improves fuel saving properties and has excellent metal fatigue life and heat resistance. The composition contains 50 to 97 percent by mass of (A) a mineral base oil having a 100 C. kinematic viscosity of 1.5 mm.sup.2/s or higher and 3.5 mm.sup.2/s or lower, a pour point a 25 C. or lower, a viscosity index of 105 or greater, a % C.sub.p of 85 or greater, a % C.sub.N of 2 or greater and 20 or less and a % C.sub.A of 3 or less; 3 to 10 percent by mass of (B) a monoester-hased base oil having a 100 C. kinematic viscosity of 2 mm.sup.2/s or higher and 10 mm.sup.2/s or lower; and 150 to 400 ppm by mass as phosphorus of (C) a specific sulfur-containing phosphite ester. The composition has a 100 C. kinematic viscosity of 2.5 mm.sup.2/s or higher and 4.0 mm.sup.2/s or lower.

Syndiotactic Propylene Polymers and Lubricating Oils Comprising the Same

This disclosure relates to syndiotactic polymers containing units derived from propylene and units derived from C.sub.4 to C.sub.20 alpha olefins. The polymers can be prepared is slurry or solution polymerization processes using a zirconium-containing metallocene catalyst system. The polymers have a melt flow rate as determined by ASTM D-1238 (230 C., 2.16 kg) of from about 0.1 to about 20 g/10 min. The syndiotactic polymers are useful as viscosity index improvers.
